What this book is about

  1. Ideas Inspired by the Qur’an is my way of overcoming the spiritual, intellectual, and emotional fissures between faith and thought, between the currently declining Western civilization and an Islamic world-view that is increasingly seen as obsolete, and between the Qur’an and the human heart.

2. This book is, in many ways, the outcome of more than thirty years of pondering, wondering, and wandering through three very different cultures – Western, Islamic, and Southeast Asian.

3. I am dedicating it to GOD, but it was written primarily for my benefit. As I say in the conclusion, “From a mass of restless and unfocused thoughts I have distilled an intellectual structure that constitutes, at least for me, the core of a coherent, albeit incomplete, outlook on everything beneath GOD’s Face.
