Interpreting the Heart of the Qur’an

  • The Qur’an is perplexing, provocative, and passionate.
  • Ideas Inspired by the Qur’an begins with GOD. I use the terms “AL-LAH” and “GOD” interchangeably to accustom both Muslim and non-Muslim readers to feeling that humanity is one, and our Deity is One. Each one of us ‘knows’ His Oneness innately, deeper than in words.
  • The Qur’an is perplexing because the idea of a Personal-Suprapersonal Being has become foreign to us. In Ideas Inspired by the Qur’an, I strive to fill that gap in sympathy and understanding.
  • The Qur’an is provocative because it challenges the reader who begins to ponder it, asking us to face our fears and preconceptions. In Ideas Inspired by the Qur’an, I confront those notions and emotions.
  • The Qur’an is passionate because GOD sees our divine reality and perilous unreality as only our Creator can, and so seizes and shakes us to break the spell of our illusions. In Ideas Inspired by the Qur’an, I try to express that existential energy and urgency through poetry.
