IDEA 5

What are Ideas? How are they ‘Inspired’?
- Ideas Inspired by the Qur’an takes the authenticity of the Qur’an for granted, and engages those who dispute that on the basis of the ideas it contains. Doubts about Muhammad (may GOD bless him and give him peace) and the historicity of the revelation he received are not addressed in the book; I may deal with them here later, in this blog.
- Ideas are distillations from the clear blue cloud of the malakut, a realm of intelligibility greater than existence, where all possible meanings, names, and intentions are freely chosen or accepted into our thoughts, wills, and lives. How inspiration occurs is still a mystery to me; it appears to take place outside the framework of normal physical causation.
- To call something inspired is no guarantee of its truth, unless it comes from GOD Himself. I believe that Truth is Objective, Singular Reality; to write about it requires, besides honesty and openness, a deep familiarity with evidence, texts, and context. In being inspired by the Qur’an, I do not deny the value of other scholarly materials. I only want to feel and see for myself and then express how intellectually powerful the Word of GOD can be when viewed without filters or preconceptions formed by sects, schools, labels, and reputations.
